Saturday October 19th ---Califon, NJ – New Jersey Arts Collaborative (NJAC) will showcase Butterbird at the Califon Book Shop.  This children’s book is part of a larger endeavor called The Butterfly Project which premiered in June at NJPAC in Newark. The Butterfly Project is a stage production loosely based on Butterbird.   Written by Mare Akana with Cheryl Chapin, TJ Christian, and Natalia Manning as a Matheny Medical and Educational Center Arts Access Writing Project based on an original concept by Andrea Kramer and illustrated by eleven NJ-area artists, Butterbird deals with the challenging subject of a child’s grief over the loss of another child.   Take a magical journey with Christopher, a young boy who loves BUGS, as he goes in search of the perfect caterpillar for his best friend, Sara.  This moving story shares the power of a childhood friendship as Sara battles cancer with Christopher by her side.  Readers’ hearts will fill with inspiration to continue moving forward during life’s rough times.

Join us on Saturday, September 19th from 2 PM to 4 P.M. at the Califon Book Shop for a Butterbird book signing by illustrator Rob Kramer and story originator Andrea Kramer.  In conjunction with this book signing, local sculptor and NJAC artist,  Mark Kramer's incredible Sea Horse will be on display for children to sit on to have their pictures taken.  Mark's Butterbird sculpture will  be on display next door at Flowers By The River who is also participating in this fund-raiser.

The Butterfly Project is dedicated in loving memory to NJAC founder Andrea Kramer’s cousin, Christopher Burke, who died of cancer at the age of six.  Proceeds benefit Children’s Cancer Research Fund.  For more information about NJAC, go to www.njartscollaborative.org.
